Chad: Five-year jail term for ex-governor

Adam Noucky Charfadine, a former governor of the town of Doba in southern Chad) has been jailed after being found guilty over a string of charges.Charfadine who appeared at a N’Djamena court on Thursday charged with attempted murder and contempt of court, was sentenced to five years in prison.

The other accusations against the former governor include sequestration, destruction of property, rebellion, discredit to the law, and encroachment on the justice system.

The former governor is accused of being in complicity with gendarmes to attack lawyer Doumra Manassee and his clients who had just been released and were home-bound.

The four gendarmes who participated in the attack were sentenced to six years in prison in addition to being dismissed from the public service.
