Idriss Deby Itno, Field Marshal and President of the Republic of neighboring country Chad is no more, the country’s army’s spokesperson, General Azem Bermandoa Agouna has announced.
The army spokesman says he died this Tuesday April 20 succumbing to injuries incurred at the battlefield in the Northern part of the country over the weekend.
Idriss Deby was expected to address his compatriots yesterday Monday April 19 in the evening following his re-election as President of the Republic of Chad for a 6th mandate with 79.3% of votes.
Due to his injuries, he was unable to answer present.
His son, General Idriss Mahamat Deby has announced the creation of a Military Council which he will lead for 18 months.
The National Assembly and Government have been dissolved.
Idriss Deby Itno served as President of the Republic of Chad from 1990 to date.
He dies at the age of 68.
