COVID-19 and W/Africa: 461 new cases and 4 new deaths in 24 hours

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has recorded 461 new cases and 4 new deaths of COVID-19 in past 24 hours, official figures show on Wednesday.The new cases were recorded in Burkina Faso (11), Cape Verde (56), Ivory Coast (16), Gambia (14), Ghana (54), Guinea (43), Guinea-Bissau (21), Liberia (1), Mali (6), Niger (4), Nigeria (176), Senegal (36), Sierra Leone (9) and Togo (14). The new death was registered in Gambia (2), Mali (1) and Senegal (1).

Nigeria has the highest number of total cases (57,613), total deaths (1,100) and total recoveries (48,836) in the sub-region. West Africa now has 173,082 total cases, 2,575 total deaths and 153,463 total recoveries.

Ghana (46,116 total cases) has 297 total deaths and 45,290 total recoveries. Ivory Coast (19,343 total cases) has 120 total deaths and 18,682 total recoveries. Senegal and Guinea have recorded 14,795 and 10,387 total cases respectively. 

Senegal has 303 total deaths and 11,718 total recoveries while Guinea has 65 total deaths and 9,780 total recoveries. Cabo Verde (5,337 total cases) has 52 total deaths and 4,742 total recoveries. Gambia (3,540 total cases) has 110 total deaths and 2,002 total recoveries.

Mali (3,030 total cases) has 129 total deaths and 2,380 total recoveries.  Guinea-Bissau (2,324 total cases) has 39 total deaths and 1,549 total recoveries.  Benin (2,294 total cases) has 40 total deaths and 1,954 total recoveries.

Sierra Leone (2,183 total cases) has 72 total deaths and 1,665 total recoveries and Burkina Faso (1,907 total cases) has 56 total deaths and 1,252 total recoveries.  Liberia (1,337 total cases) has 82 total deaths and 1,219 total recoveries. Togo (1,683 total cases) has 41 total deaths and 1,290 total recoveries.  Niger (1,193 total cases) has 69 total deaths and 1,104 total recoveries. 

Africa has registered 1,430,640 total cases, 34,426 total deaths and 1,175,097 total recoveries while the world has recorded 31,933,102 total cases, 978,025 total deaths and 23,519,937 total recoveries.
