Ethio-telecom earned over $682 million in revenues over the past six months, Ethiopia’s integrated telecommunications provider said in a statement on Saturday.Gross profit represented more than $519 million of the revenue which is up by 18 percent compared to the same period last year, the state telecom giant said.
Ethio-telecom has 52 million clients, of whom 51 million are mobile phone subscribers.
The statement noted that the company is finalizing the expansion projects across the country to improve its quality of service.
The nation loses over $52 million annually due to telecom fraud, Ethio-telecom said.
Abdurahim Ahmed, corporate communication manager at the telecom company, told APA early this week that fraudsters have shifted their target from fixed-line telephones to mobile phones.
In the first half of this fiscal year (July-December) alone Ethiopia prosecuted 12 people allegedly involved in telecom fraud.
