The 29th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU) starts on Monday.The two-day summit will be held under the theme, “Harnessing the Demographic Dividend through Investment in the Youth.”
The summit is expected to focus on peace and security, economy, trade, AU reforms and youth empowerment, among others.
Meanwhile, the Executive Council of the African Union (AU) on Sunday endorsed election of new commissioners for Economic Affairs and Human Resources, Science and Technology of the African Union Commission.
Accordingly, Madagascar’s Victor Harison was elected commissioner for Economic Affairs of the African Union Commission.
Cameroon’s Sarah Anyang Agbor won the post for Human Resources, Science and Technology commissioner of the continental body.
Ethiopia’s Neway Gebreab, Djibouti’s Yacin Elmi Bouh, and Cameroon’s Marte Chantal Mbajo were the other three candidates running for the post of commissioner for Economic Affairs while Uganda’s Dr. John Patrick Kabayo was the other contenders for the post of commissioner for Human Resources, Science and Technology.
