Ethiopian athletics team finished in first place at the 13th African Junior Championships held in Tlemcen, Algeria, APA learned on Monday.Ethiopian athletes collected a total of 38 medals, including 13 gold, 13 silver and 12 bronze medals in various events, at this year’s African Junior Athletics Championships.
The biennial continental athletics event for junior athletes from African nations, held for the 13th time in Algeria, ended late on Sunday.
With 17 medals (12 gold, 4 silver and one bronze), South Africa finished 2nd, while the host country, Algeria, obtained 20 medals (4 gold, 8 silver and 8 bronze) to earn third place.
Kenya finished 4th with 10 medals (4 gold, 4 silver and two bronze.)
It would be recalled that Nigeria, South Africa and Ethiopia came first, second and third respectively, at the 12th African Junior Championships held in Addis Ababa two years ago.
