EU offers $800, 000 to civic societies in Swaziland

Swaziland’s civil society organisations will be $800 000 richer following funding by the European Union (EU) for projects such as advocating for democracy in the kingdom. The funding is in response to a financial request made by the organisations after the EU called for proposals with specific objectives.

The document by the EU released on Monday states that it gives support for civil society actions aimed at promoting capacity building, awareness raising and advocacy for democracy and human rights education in the country.

“Support for civil society organisations’ activities on electoral support such as civic and voter education, dialogue and training for political actors and post-election monitoring,” were listed in the document as some of the specific objectives.

The EU will be holding an information session at the Happy Valley Hotel in Ezulwini on April 5, 2017.
