The First edition of the U-17 football tournament called “Foot Solidaire Cup” will take place in Yaounde from August 12 to 15, 2017.
Jean-Claude Mbvoumin, founder of Association Foot Solidaire, made the announcement during a press conference in Yaounde on Wednesday July 12, 2017. The tournament will take place under the patronage of the Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Bidoung Mkpatt.
The competition will bring together eight teams- four from France and four from Cameroon and will take place at the Yaounde Omnisports Stadium. The U-17 friendly international tournament will be an opportunity to detect young talents in football. The competition will help boost Cameroonian clubs to be interested in youth tournaments. Draws for the competition were equally made during the press during the press conference. After the draw the eight competing teams are paired in two groups. Group A comprising Academie Eugene Ekeke, Guingamp, Paris France and Foot Solidaire and Group B has Coton Sport , Olympique de Marseille Academie Psg and Cameroon team still to be determined.
Jean-Claude Mbvoumin said the objective of the tournament is to offer an opportunity for young footballers in Cameroona chance to test their talents in professional football. “Our children will go regularly to Europe and participate in tournaments. Also young European children will come and play in Cameroon. It is to give the children a feeling of international competition at home,” he said. Also it will be an opportunity for other foreign teams to judge the performance of Cameroonian teams.
“Today they have an opportunity to have an international compete in Cameroonwith French teams. It is important for our youth football,” he said. Created 17 years ago, Association Foot Solitaire works for protection of young African footballers aspiring for a professional career in Europe.
