The French Secretary of State at the Ministry of European and Foreign Affairs is expected today in Cameroon to discuss the Anglophone crisis with authorities in Yaounde.
Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne will hold a two-day working session on Thursday and Friday and is expected to meet with the Head of State Paul Biya. According to a statement from Quai d’Orsay, Emmanuel Macron’s emissary will discuss possible solutions to the Anglophone crisis with Cameroon’s Head of State.
The French Secretary of State will later visit the South West Region of Cameroon where he will meet with local authorities to hold discussions on the crsis.
France has been accused of giving a blind eye since the crisis in Cameroon broke out in 2016 with their last official outing coming in 2017 after the October 1 deadly clashes between security forces and protesters.
“France is following the situation in Cameroon carefully and is preoccupied by the incidents that took place over the weekend,” foreign ministry spokeswoman Agnes Romatet-Espagne said in October 2017.
“We call on all the actors to show restraint and reject violence,” she added.
