Ghana: NIA dismisses 12 officials for violating card registration rules

The National Identification Authority (NIA) of Ghana has dismissed 12 officials for violating the directives, rules and regulations in the process of registering people for the ECOWAS identification cards.Four others have been suspended for other minor offences.

The Daily Graphic reports on Wednesday that the Head of Corporate Affairs of the authority, Mr. Francis Palmdeti, said the officers in question conducted themselves in a manner contrary to the statutes of the organisation.

He noted that the officers were on contract to facilitate the mass national identification card registration process, but they went contrary to the rules and were dismissed outright.

Mr. Palmdeti explained that some officers worked beyond the stipulated working hours, while others registered people in their homes.

The exercise, which began on May 29, 2019, has been highly patronised, therefore, compelling some officers to engage in all sort of practices, top among them is working beyond the stipulated time.
