The Paramount ruler of the Balondo people, in the Ndian division of the South West region has been reportedly shot dead by unidentified gunmen.
HRH Itoh Esoh was brutally murdered on Sunday morning just as he stepped out of church before the men disappeared into thin air.
Local sources say the situation has created a tense atmosphere in Ekondi Titi with “indescriminate shootings” going on and locals taking refuge indoors
The killing of Chief Itoh Esoh, former board chair of the Pamol Plantations Limited as well as former President of the South West Chiefs Conference is the latest in a series of atrocities targeted at traditional rulers in the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon.
Two weeks ago, seven traditional rulers from Fako were released from captivity after one theirs had died in the keeping of armed men which provoked anger and outrage in Buea.
The traditional rulers were received by the Minister of Territorial Administration but have not made any public statement since their release from captivity.
