Kenyan leader favourite to win elections-Poll

An opinion poll released on Friday shows President Uhuru Kenyatta as the clear favourite to win the August 8 elections if they were to be held today, staying ahead of his stiff competitor, opposition leader, Raila Odinga.According to a poll by a leading research firm in Kenya- Infotrak, Kenyatta leads with 48 percent while Odinga comes close with 43 percent.

According to the poll, Kenyatta’s Jubilee party is the most popular party at 47 per cent as compared to Odinga’s National Super Alliance Party (NASA) at 43 per cent.

“A sample of 2000 respondents was interviewed to represent the Kenyan voting population of about 19.6 million as per the 2017 Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission voter register, translating into a margin of error 2.2 at 95 per cent degree of confidence,” Infotrak said.

According to the poll, Kenyatta is popular in North Eastern, Eastern, Central and Rift Valley regions while Odinga draws more support from the Coast, Western, Nyanza and Nairobi regions.

Kenya is gearing to hold the polls on August 8 with President Uhuru Kenyatta seeking a second and final term in office and is expected to face off with opposition leader, Raila Odinga is seeking a fourth stab at the Presidency.
