Lesotho gets financial, food aid from China

China has given Lesotho US$20 million in financial assistance and food aid valued at US$1 million that would be distributed under the United Nations’ World Food Programme.Lesotho Prime Minister Thomas Thabane told journalists on Tuesday that the aid was given during the Forum on China Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) held in China last week.

Thabane said the money would be used for developmental projects in Lesotho.

He appealed to his cabinet ministers to work hard to make maximum use of the money on behalf of the Basotho nation.

The funds are part of the US$60 billion in financial assistance that was pledged by Chinese President Xi Jinping during the FOCAC summit held in Beijing last week.
