Malawi President appoints new central bank Governor

Malawi President Peter Mutharika on Friday appointed Daliso Kabambe as Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) Governor, replacing Charles Chuka whose contract has expired.Kabambe was Secretary for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, before his new appointment.

A statement from the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC), announced that it pleased President Mutharika to hire a new governor to head the country’s Central Bank with immediate effect.

“In exercise of powers vested in him by the RBM Act, the president has appointed Kabambe to the position of Governor of the central bank,” it said.

Kabambe is a professional economist and has worked in several portfolios in the government, including a position as national budget director, principal economist in the Ministry of Agriculture, chief director of Economic Planning in the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development, and secretary of Foreign Affairs.
