Malawian leader appoints new deputy agriculture minister

Malawian President Peter Mutharika has reassigned Deputy Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security, Aggrey Massi to be Deputy Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development.According to a statement from Office of the President and Cabinet, the appointment is with immediate effect.

“The ministry is currently being held by President Mutharika and the new deputy minister will oversee the daily activities of the ministry,” it said.

The ministry was previously headed by George Chaponda who was removed from the position due to his involvement in the scandal involving the importation of maize grain by the government from Zambia amounting to US$34.5 million.
