Menchum valley DO kidnapped

The Divisional Officer of the Menchum valley, Lokombe Derek Mwanjo was on Saturday kidnaped by armed men on Friday along the Bamenda-Wum road.

Sources say the D.O who hails from Ndian Division in the South West Region was pulled out of his vehicle by 4pm and taken to an unknown destination. His vehicle was later found on the road set ablaze by the armed men.

Statement from some of the separatist activists say the D.O has spoken to his family but details of the conversation were not released.

This is the latest administrative officer targeted by armed men in the English speaking regions of Cameroon since the crisis broke out in 2016.

On Friday, seven traditional rulers from Buea were presented to the press in Yaounde by the Ministerv of Territorial Administration after spending over two weeks in captivity.

Still last week, Tabufor Francis, a Senior State Counsel in Fundong was released after spending weeks in captivity as while the mayor of Ekondo Titi Kenneth Nanji was equally released after spending days in the hands of the armed men.

Till date, there is still no news of the whereabouts of the Divisional Officer of Batibo Marcel Namata Diteng who was kidnapped on February 11 though the government apparently confirmed in June that he had been killed.
