Mount Cameroon race to hold amidst Ambazonia threats in Buea

Athletes arrived Buea under heavy military escort

The various delegations of athletes are already in Buea, capital of the South West Region ahead of the Mount Cameroon Race scheduled to take place on Saturda February 23.

The race will take place under a particular context with security concerns raised following series of violent events in Buea in the past weeks.

In addition, the Ambazonia separatist fighters have imposed a ghost town on the city to “frustrate the race” threatening hell to those who will come out for the race.

However, athletes arrived Buea on Saturday under heavy military protection as they drove to the Molyko stadium to complete pre-race formalities.

The Minister of Sports and Physical Education Narcisse Mouelle Kombi is equally in Buea where he presided over activities at the Molyko Omnisports stadium.

At the stadium today, traditional rulers poured libation to call on the protection of the gods ahead of tomorrow’s race.
