Mozambique and Russia have expressed a desire to see the historic ties between the two countries revitalized, state media reported here on Sunday.According to state-controlled weekly Domingo, the desire was expressed during the ongoing visit to Russia by Mozambican National Defence Minister Athanasius M’tumuke. The minister has been leading a Mozambican delegation to Russia since Tuesday.
Quoting a statement from the ministry, the weekly said M’tumuke and Russian army chief Sergey Shoygu signed an agreement on naval cooperation and participated in the 7th Conference on Security International.
The Mozambican minister also met with the Deputy Defence Minister Alexandre Fomin to discuss strategies on the cooperation between senior military officers.
During the meetings, the Mozambican side reaffirmed the excellent ties of friendship, solidarity and cooperation existing between the two countries.
Relations between Mozambique and Russia date back to the armed struggle of national liberation and shared information on the political, social and economic situation of both countries.
