Zambia’s new president Hakainde Hichilema has been praised for apparently shunning opulence when he traveled to New York with a “modest-looking” entourage for the UN General Assembly, APA learnt on Monday.Mr. Hichilema who was voted into office last month as Zambia’s seventh president is making his debut at the UN accompanied by two ministers, in sharp contrast to his predecessors who were lampooned for carrying large entourages with them.
Hichilema is also attracting positive comments when he mande his first sojourn abroad as president on board a Qatar Airways commercial flight.
Foreign Affairs minister Stanley Kakubo and Finance minister Dr Situmbeko Musokotwane are with the president in New York.
The Zambian leader issued a statement about the rationale behind his modest entourage, saying:“just like we promised before taking office, we will ensure prudent management of public resources”
