The National Chairman of the Social Democratic Front, Ni John Fru Ndi, says there was no external pressure from any quarter on him to give up his presidential ambition.
Going by the SDF Chieftain, his decision to put an end to his presidential race was a collegial decision he took, after concerting with his family.
Hear him: “The decision for me not to run again for presidential election was taken after consulting my children and family members and nobody ever mounted pressure on me not to run,” Fru Ndi asserted.
The septuagenarian was speaking to reporters at his Ntarinkon residence in Bamenda, Saturday, February 24, 2018, after stepping aside as the party’s presidential candidate in the 2018 polls. Even though Fru Ndi did not vie for the SDF Presidential ticket, he nonetheless, retained the party’s National Chairmanship.
The SDF Chair was delighted that militants of the party has chosen his First Vice National Chairman to be the party’s flag bearer in the imminent election.
“This is the best choice the party has provided and I pray that Cameroonians across the board will vote for this enterprising young man…
Fru Ndi was very categorical that he is not as powerful now as he was 27 years ago, that is why he has decided to take the backburner seat and watch young people blossom in their political career.
“I am no longer as strong as I used to be 27 years ago, so I thought I should take a back seat and watch young peopleperform the tasks ahead of them.”
Meanwhile, Hon. Joshua Osih on his part lauded Fru Ndi for his wisdom and said he was ready to fly the flag of the party in the next election.
“I am up to the task. I am fully aware, knowing my militants and Cameroonians all over the country will vote for the SDF candidate. My sincere thanks go to the National Chairman, our father, who is full of wisdom,” the SDF Presidential flag bearer stated.
