Senegal in mourning as Niassene brotherhood caliph dies

Senegal has been plunged into mourning after the General Caliph of the Medina Baye Niasse brotherhood in Kaolack (center), Cheikh Ahmed Tidiane Niass died at theGrand-Yoff hospital in Dakar on Sunday.By Edouard Toure

The 4th Caliph of Medina Baye was 88 years old. 

He is succeeded by Cheikh Mouhammadou Mahi Niass.

Reacting on his Twitter handle President Macky Sall described the caliph’s death as “sad news”. 

The Senegalese leader hailing the memory of “a holy man, a builder and a great figure of the Tijania Fayda.”
