Senegal ranks 111th in the world’s tourist sites, Tourism Minister Alioune Sarr was quoted on Tuesday by the daily Vox populi.“At the end of this classification, if it appears that there are differences that have been noted with regard to the standards we wish to have in Senegal, we will propose to these institutions upgrades through hotel credit. This is an opportunity to be seized,” Sarr said.
He was speaking at the launch of the National Commission for the Classification of Tourist Establishments on Monday in Dakar
This body is supposed to determine the number of hotels of 5, 4 and 3 stars present in the Senegalese tourist area.
Calling for the mobilization of all stakeholders, the Minister said: “We must mobilize ourselves, including the government, the private sector and also citizens, to enable our country to capture its share.
In Senegal, there are officially 910 hotels.
