Nigerians Get Mad At Grammy Awards Winner, Angélique Kidjo

She won the trophy last Sunday in the US taking over Wizkid and Rocky Dawuni.

Last Sunday, April 3, 2022, Angélique Kidjo was winning her fifth Grammy Awards. It was thanks to her music album dubbed, Mother Nature. A distinction many Africans were proud of.

But this point of view was not shared in Nigeria. The latter used the social media, Instagram, saying Angélique Kidjo did not deserve the trophy. In their opinion, it is instead, their counterpart, Wizkid, with his Legacy + who was super to win the Grammy Awards. Nigerians highlighted his capacity of bringing in large crowds during his shows be it in Europe or in the US.

They did not stop there. A lot of Nigerians went in insulting the franco-beninesse singer saying she is not talented enough to overpower Wizkid.

Going in line with their attitude, Naomie Campbell came in in support of Wizkid. She published one of his pictures describing him as the real king.

Before such a situation, the organising committee of the Grammy Awards said giving the trophy to Angélique Kidjo is due to the message she portrays in her song which is more peculiar regarding the African genre compared to Wizkid’s song said to be more urban.
