The Minister of Sports and Physical Education Pierre Ismael Bidoung Mkpatt has ordered the Normalization Committee of the Cameroon Football Federation, FECAFOOT to present a new electoral calendar in the days ahead.
This instruction follows the promulgation of the bill reorganising sports activities in the country by the Head of Head Paul Biya on June 11.
One of the sections in the laws governing sports in the country had been the bone of contention that has grounded electoral affairs at Fecafoot for the past years.
Despite an electoral calendar unveiled last month by the President of the Normalization Committee Dieudonné Happi, world football governing body FIFA stepped in to halt the process until the bill is adopted in parliament.
It was eventually adopted by the lower and upper houses of parliament but question marks still lie as to the body to conduct elections at the helmn of Fecafoot given that the mandate of the Normalization expires on August 31-the timeframe between mid-July and August not enough to adopt the new statutes of Fecafoot, organise elections from the grassroots to the national level.
With the current state of affairs another extension of the Normalisation committee’s mandate by FIFA to run the elections is on the horizon but first a review of the revised text before the electoral train can leave the station.
