Student shot by armed men in Widikum finally laid to rest

The Form three student of Saint Benedict Comprehensive College Widikum was caught in a cross fire between Ambazonia fighters and soldiers in that locality on March 26.

The student, Galega Emmanuel was finally buried on Thursday in his native Bali Nyongha after a requiem mass celebrated by the Archbishop of Bamenda Cornelius Fontem Esua.

Addressing the large crowd of mourners present, His Lordship Cornelius Fontem Esua said the presence of all is a show of solidarity to the bereaved family as well as to the staff and students of the school.

He also recalled the circumstances leading to death of the young Galega Emmanuel.

« This student was killed not because there was no security, but was killed by those who had come into the college and wanted to burn down the college and the children were running for safety and they(attackers) continued to pursue them, » the Archbishop said.

« He(Galega Emmanuel) fell  and one of those who wanted to burn down the college who was pursuing him, recognised by this child as a former student  and who has been a drop out… » added.

The Archbishop lamented the fact that students have been forced to drop out of school and join armed groups.

« If children are now educated to become all like the one who killed this one(Galega Emmanuel), therefore, we have to chose and we have to stand for the truth, we have to stand for justice » His Lordship Fontem Esua said.

He also used the opportunity to call for a free and fair dialogue and the respect of human lives and properties from both sides.

Students who came to pay their last hommage to their friend and class mate as they described the fallen young man as caring, lovely, friendly and jovial who always shared with his friends.

Galega Emmanuel was shot on the night of 26 March when unknowned armed men attacked their school in an attempt gto burn it down.
