Swaziland covers 97 percent ground in fight against TB

Swaziland is not only a success story in terms of the fight against Tuberculosis, but its success rate is at 97 percent, APA reports here on Thursday.National TB Programme Director Themba Dlamini said there was evidence that Swaziland was no longer among the highest per capita TB burdened countries in the world.

“TB prevalence on Swaziland now stands at 403 per 100 000 people, a huge decline from the alarming statistics that we had in previous years,” he said during a mid-term analysis meeting held at the Royal Swazi Sun on Thursday.

Dlamini said the results indicated that people now understood the importance of TB treatment and also that TB was a curable disease.

The official said the purpose of the mid-term assessment was to provide feedback on the performance of the TB programmes, to improve the implementation and subsequent planning.
