More than 500 Swazis who are not Muslims received free Qurans during Ramadan, an official said on Tuesday.According to local Muslim liaison officer Sahid Matsebula, the distribution of the English version of the Muslim holy book was not a once-off exercise.

“The distribution of the Quran to non-Muslims drew us a bit closer to non-Muslims and we trust this will help in clearing the misconceptions about our religion,” Matsebula said in a statement.

Matsebula said during the month of Ramadan, the Muslim community at all six local mosques managed to complete the recitation of the whole 6,600 verses.

He said they were grateful that the month of fasting proceeded smoothly without unfortunate incidents.
