Zimbabwe’s agricultural exports to China rise to $650m

Zimbabwe’s agricultural exports to China rose by more than 22 percent to US$657 million in 2022, the Chinese embassy in Harare said late Wednesday. The embassy said in a tweet that China’s imports of agricultural products such as tobacco, macadamia nuts and cotton leapt 22.64 percent over 2021, underlining the role of the Asian country “as a big market for Zimbabwean agricultural products”.

“Meanwhile, Zimbabwean farmers reap big from the export boom,” it added.

Official statistics show that China has become one of the top export destinations for Zimbabwean products in recent years.

The Asian giant ranked as the third-largest importer of Zimbabwean goods last year, according to data from the southern African country’s trade promotion body ZimTrade.

Overall trade between the two countries surged 29.2 percent year-on-year to a record high of US$2.43 billion in 2022.
